BunionAidâ„¢ Is The New Essential Item in Nurses’ Toolkit

German engineered day/night hinged splint Bunion Aid offers comfort and correction for millions of nurses with painful bunions.

San Francisco, CA – January 28, 2009 –
The new essential item for nurses is not a new scrub suit nor surgical
gloves.  The new “must-have” item for 2009 in the nursing community is
Bunion Aid, the German engineered day/night hinged splint launched in
the American market in October 2008.  Over 60 million American women and
15 million men suffer from Hallux valgus, also called “bunions”.  For
nurses, who spend so many hours on their feet tending to the sick, an
effective way to prevent the pain from this common dysfunction of the
foot is a top priority.

Alpha Orthotics Corporation
(www.alphaorthotics.com)  opened their online shop at
www.alphaorthotics.com/shop  last month to make it convenient for
consumers, including the nursing community, to purchase Bunion Aid with
the click of a mouse. The Bunion Aid splint is also available at select
retailers and podiatrists nationwide for an SRP of $59.95.

Bunion
Aid is a combination of a medical-grade plastic splint and hook & loop
fastening metatarsal and toe straps. The plastic portion of the splint
is hinged and fastened along the inside border of the foot with a toe
and metatarsal strap. The straps and the splint provide three-point
correction of the bunion deformity though out the gait cycle. The
metatarsal arch is optimally stabilized, the bunion relieved, the
mal-positioning of the toe corrected and the foot brought back and held
in its natural position. Bunion-Aid is an alternative for people with
mild to moderate bunions and can help with post-surgery treatment.

“We
think Bunion Aid is perfect for the nursing profession since it is so
comfortable you can wear it working”, said Gaby Federal, CEO of Alpha
Orthotics Corporation. “This splint can be used as a conservative pain
reduction treatment option that may help avoid or postpone the need for
invasive surgery. Bunion Aid can help nurses as they actively move
around hospital wards doing their important work pain-free.”

About Hallux Valgus or “Bunions”

Hallux
Valgus or “bunion” is a malalignment of the two bones that form the
base joint of the big toe (also called the metatarsophalangeal joint).
Due to the misalignment, the big toe begins to angle inward towards the
other toes, thrusting the base joint out further in the opposite
direction. Aside from being unsightly, bunions can develop into an
extremely serious, painful condition over time if neglected. The reasons
for the development of Hallux valgus are an inherited predisposition, a
tendency towards weak supporting and connective tissue or muscular
imbalance. Mal-positioning is aggravated by too tight, too pointed and
too small shoes. Hallux valgus patients traditionally have been treated
with surgery or rigid night splints.
